How Did NLP Start?
So how did NLP start?
NLP started in the 1970s with two gentlemen called Richard Bandler and John Grinder.
Who were they?
Richard Bandler was a student and mathematician at California University.
John Grinder was a professor of languages at California University
The two gentlemen met during their time at the university.
They also met Fritz Perls, who was a German psychologist and designed the gestalt therapy.
And also Virginia Satir was an author, and a family therapist too.
Where did the method originate?
Together what they realized is that their work produced the same results and was the same behaviours. So they modelled their work, combining a variety of methods and produced the start of NLP.
They then also modelled Milton Erickson, who was a clinical hypnotherapist (known as the father of hypnotherapy).
What they found was that his work also produced similar results.
So they put all that together to produce NLP.
So NLP was born in the early 1970s. And by late 1979, Richard Bandler and John Grinder went their own separate ways.
