How Does Procrastination Affect You?
Procrastination has affected all of us!
Firstly, you are not alone, most of us will have at some time in our life have been struck down with procrastination. Never the less, how procrastination affects you, can be completely different to how it affects someone else.
Procrastination is the habit of putting things off, and it is usually the thing that stops people achieving. Although there are different levels of Procrastination, all of them can be solved by getting started now on what it is you are putting off until later.
I was once told that delay is the deadliest form of denial, and to remember when you say later to yourself, you are cheating yourself out of your success inheritance.
The fascinating thing about ‘later’ is that no one can say anything to us about it as a deadline because we will get it done, later.
Excuses and Procrastination.
If I look back on my younger years, I probably did miss opportunities that were there by putting things off.
Often we use the excuse of lack of sleep and tiredness as a delay tactic.
For example, have you ever noticed yourself feeling tired when you come close to doing something that is perhaps uncomfortable, difficult or time consuming? Thus, putting the task off until later.
Fatigue is an amazing procrastination habit to use when we don’t want to do what it is we should do!
At school I was once told of an Arabian proverb; ‘A lazy man is never lucky. Laziness is resting before you get tired’.
Put an end to procrastination today if you are a person that wants to achieve success.
Eat your Big Fogs first!
Indeed, just by making a start on whatever it is you are procrastinating about you will begin to eliminate the anxiety that you have around it.
By taking action, the anxiety you have about that future event will start to weaken and trust me it will disappear.
In fact, that is why I always say ‘eat your big frogs first’, just as Brian Tracy explains in his book ’21 ways to stop procrastinating’. Get the important tasks done in the morning, or the start of your shift.
For example, I remember my first ever telesales job and not liking the phone! After a day of attempting to sell advertising space I either had ‘no’s’ or I was putting the phone down before people could even answer. “Do the thing and you will have the power” said my manager when I had a chat with her about it.
No more Procrastination!
Get your diary and allocate exclusive time each day to get each task that you have been putting off done. This will give you a feeling of empowerment, trust me you are going to feel great. As Mark Twain once said, “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day”.
