Tony’s Journey from Bullying and Self-Harm to Healing:

How NLP and Hypnotherapy Changed His Life.

Introduction

For years, Tony felt trapped in a cycle of pain. Tony was bullied relentlessly—at school, online, and even in places where Tony should have felt safe. The words and actions of others made Tony believe he was worthless, that he somehow deserved it. Tony didn’t know how to ask for help, and even if Tony had, Tony feared no one would listen.

Self-harm became Tony’s escape. It was the only way he knew how to cope with the overwhelming feelings inside me. It was his silent cry for help, a way to express what Tony couldn’t put into words. But deep down, he knew this wasn’t the answer. Tony wanted to break free from the pain, but he didn’t know how.

That was when Tony’s parents found an NLP Coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist who helped him see himself in a different light. This is Tony’s journey—from feeling hopeless to finding hope—and how NLP and hypnotherapy changed his life.

The Darkest Days

Tony remembers the first time he self-harmed. Tony was desperate for relief from the emotional torment he felt daily. The bullying was relentless—name-calling, exclusion, cruel messages on social media. Every insult felt like another confirmation that Tony was not good enough.

Tony wanted to tell someone, but he convinced himself that it was his fault and blamed himself.

Tony believed if  he was different, better, smarter, stronger—maybe they would stop. Maybe he wouldn’t be hurting so much. But instead of speaking up, Tony turned the pain inward.

Tony thought he could hide it, but deep down, Tony wished someone would notice. Tony needed someone to see beyond his forced smiles, someone to understand what Tony couldn’t say aloud to anyone including his parents.

Finding the Right Help

After months of struggling alone, Tony reached a breaking point. A teacher at school noticed Tony wasn’t himself and gently suggested he seek support. At first, Tony resisted.

What could talking do?

Wouldn’t they just tell him to ‘get over it’ like everyone else?

But when the teacher had a word with Tony’s parents it was decided to be introduced to an NLP Coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist who specialised in working with people like him—people who felt lost, stuck, and in pain.

The First Session: A Safe Space

Walking into his first session, Tony was nervous. Tony had never opened up to anyone before. But the therapist made Tony feel safe. There was no judgment, no pressure—just understanding.

We started with a conversation. My coach listened, really listened, in a way that no one else had before. They reassured Tony that his feelings were valid and that there was a way forward. The Therapist explained that NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and hypnotherapy weren’t about ‘fixing’ you but about helping you change the way you see yourself and your experiences.

How NLP Helped Me Change Tony’s Thinking

One of the first things my NLP coach helped Tony with was identifying the negative beliefs he had about himself. Tony didn’t even realise how often he repeated phrases in my mind like:

  • “I deserve this.”
  • “I’m not good enough.”
  • “I can’t escape this.”

These thoughts felt like facts, but they weren’t—they were just beliefs he had absorbed from the bullying. His coach used NLP techniques to challenge and change them.

Reframing Negative Thoughts

Tony learned how to reframe his thoughts. Instead of thinking, “I deserve this pain,” He began to see the bullying for what it was—someone else’s problem, not his. He started replacing negative self-talk with:

  • “I am strong.”
  • “I am worthy of kindness.”
  • “I am not defined by what others say about me.”

Anchoring Confidence

One of the most powerful NLP techniques Tony learned was anchoring. His coach helped him create an anchor—a simple physical movement (pressing my thumb and finger together) that he paired with strong, positive emotions. Now, whenever Tony feels overwhelmed, he uses this anchor to bring himself back to a place of calm and confidence.

The Healing Power of Hypnotherapy

While NLP helped Tony change his thought patterns, hypnotherapy helped him heal on a deeper level. His therapist used relaxation techniques to guide him into a trance-like state where he could safely explore his emotions and let go of the pain Tony had been holding onto.

Releasing Trauma

One session focused on releasing the emotional trauma from the bullying. Through visualisation, Tony was able to picture himself stepping away from the negative experiences, seeing them as something separate from who  he was. It was an emotional experience, but afterward, Tony felt lighter—like he had left some of the pain behind.

Building Self-Worth

In another session, Tony’s therapist guided me through a visualisation where he saw himself as confident, happy, and free from self-harm. The more he practiced this, the more real it felt. It gave Tony something to strive for—a version of himself that was whole and unburdened.

Moving Forward: A Life Without Self-Harm

The changes didn’t happen overnight, but with each session, Tony grew stronger. he learned new coping mechanisms that didn’t involve hurting himself. Tony learned to talk about his feelings, to reach out when he needed help, and most importantly, to be kind to himself.

Today, Tony is in a much better place. he no longer feels the need to harm himself to express his pain. Tony has confidence, self-respect, and a sense of control over his life that he never thought possible.
